Welcome to the Lovelace Theatre Group
Hello, thank you for visiting and welcome along to the website of the Lovelace Theatre Group. We are a dynamic and vibrant group engaged in the production of plays, musicals and amateur theatre.
The Lovelace Theatre Group puts on three productions a year and has a long history dating back to the late 60's. We perform at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. The building is a converted church hall which has a purpose built stage, licensed bar and full amenities. There's rumoured to be a ghost wandering about backstage too!

The Lovelace Theatre Junior Group
The Lovelace Theatre Group is always on the lookout for new talent, not only with adults but also children. They are our lifeblood, especially for our annual pantomime which takes place in January each year.
We hold a meeting for the Junior Group each Wednesday evening from 7:30pm to 9:15pm. These consist of drama sessions and acting lessons as well as song and dance. A small nominal charge to cover the cost of hire of our venue is made for this.
Adult sessions are also held every Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 10:00. Membership fees are £25 per year. New members are always welcome.

Our History
So, how did it all start? The original Hucknall Drama Club was formed in the 1930's. One of it's members was Robin Bailey who later gained fame as a noted actor; appearing in many films and on television. Robin was a patron of the group for a while and passed away on 14th January 1999.
The Hucknall Drama Group eventually disbanded. Then, in 1968 a teacher called David Henty came to live in Hucknall. When he discovered there was no drama group in the town he decided to form one to showcase the talent of Hucknall and beyond.
The church hall was the ideal venue for this purpose and with borrowed money he staged a grand performance of 'Cinderella' and so the Hucknall Dramatic Society was born.
For the last 40 years or so the group was guided and influenced by Kath and Keith Wiliams who actively participated right up until a few years ago when both sadly passed away.
